| Hi my name is Joann Price. I started Caregiving in 2002. I am a Certified Child Caregiver. (I started this because my children were very little and I didn’t want them going to a daycare.) My children are now getting a little older, which allows me to be more of a Caregiver to others.
I originally started Caregiving for my Dad, who had cancer, and struggled for many years. My Mom was perfectly able to assist him in the beginning of his battle, but years later she started to wear down and needed some assistance. I started helping both of them by just running errands, assisting with Doc’s appointments, meal preparations, household chores, minor organization of the home and just everyday companionship.
After my Dad past away, I realized that I needed to pursue this type of Caregiving in my future.
I blessedly found a couple from my church who are also very caregiving themselves. They had both been very mobile, constantly on the move with their senior activities. Over the years, he started to become more dependent on her and eventually became wheelchair bound. She was fine in the beginning, taking care of all of the responsibilities of a caregiver, but now she is becoming rather rundown. She is wearing thin on physical and mental strength. I have been assisting them with some of their household chores, running errands, grocery items, assisting with moving him from bathroom to the bedroom, etc. They are just not ready to make the next move to a nursing home, for 2 main reasons: They don’t want to leave their home and the cost of a nursing home is so outrageous, they can’t afford it!
This is why I have chosen the Caregiving field. I am CPR and First Aid Certified. I will be pursuing a course in Nursing Assistant Certification to become more medically detailed in assistance of others.
I am available to work on Mondays: (9:00am – 3:30pm) every other Wednesdays, and Fridays: 1:45pm – 3:30pm. My schedule will expand in the future.
